Voyages of Discovery's Voyager to Undergo Next Step in Rennovation

Voyager of Voyages of Discovery Next Refit Scheduled.

Voyager, the 540-passenger ship joining the Voyages of Discovery fleet in December, will undertake its final refurbishments in Portland Port in the UK this winter.

Voyager is due to arrive at the UK south coast port on November 1 for a month-long refurbishment ahead of its maiden voyage on December 4.

Northern Ireland-based refurbishment specialist Mivan will be completing the project which marks the final stage in a multimillion-pound investment by Voyages of Discovery to introduce the ship to its fleet.

Key new additions to Voyager will include the introduction of an explorer theme throughout the entire ship, reinforcing the destination-led cruise offering including a new Scott’s Lounge—a classic piano bar serving cocktails into the evening—and new specialty restaurant, the Explorer Club.

The addition of a ‘look-out’ lounge providing panoramic views from the front of the ship and a new terrace with all-weather awning added to the Veranda Restaurant will allow passengers to dine al fresco.

Introduction of new digital media players in all cabins, new artwork added to key public spaces and the upgrade of all soft furnishing in public spaces are part of the refit, as is a complete refurbishment of the library and its reference books and a new dual-purpose Bridge Club and function room.

Formerly the Alexander von Humboldt, Voyager has received significant investments since its purchase by All Leisure Group in 2009. These include a major technical upgrade and the addition of more balcony cabins.

Voyages of Discovery Adds Ship - Voyager

Voyage of Discovery has announced the addition of mv Voyager to the Voyages of Discovery fleet, expanding the brand’s product offering and giving customers more flexibility and choice of itineraries to worldwide destinations.

Formerly the Alexander von Humboldt, All Leisure Group has invested significantly in improvements to mv Voyager since purchasing the ship in 2009, with further upgrades planned in the future. To date the ship has received major technical upgrades plus the addition of more cabins with balconies, creating extra comfort and space while still maintaining Voyages of Discovery’s renowned unique discovery cruising ethos. Carrying just 550 passengers, mv Voyager offers a choice of 278 cabins, 30 of which have balconies, open seating dining in two restaurants plus an intimate pre-bookable restaurant and a range of large cruise ship facilities with small ship convenience. Like mv Discovery, the small size of mv Voyager means that the ship is able to access remote, out of the way ports – essential for the Voyages of Discovery destination-led cruise offering.

mv Voyager will commence her maiden voyage in November 2012 with a full Caribbean, Central and South American program including a cruise of the Amazon. At the same time mv Discovery will be undergoing an extensive refurbishment during a three-month dry dock period, including teak decking, expansion of public areas, cabin improvements, updated furnishing and developments to dining areas.

All three brands of All Discovery Cruising’s small ship cruising portfolio have been named finalists in the prestigious 2011 British Travel Awards.

Travel industry professionals and selected consumers nominated the British cruise company’s Voyages of Discovery, Swan Hellenic, and Hebridean Island Cruises in several categories.

(Mar 15, 2010) -- Destination specialist Voyages of Discovery has expanded its Summer 2010 Book Inside ~ Sail Outside promotion to include the recently announced Winter 2010/11 South America program. mv Discovery will embark on its first-ever circumnavigation of South America in January 2011, with cruises and cruise combinations from 15 to 80 nights. Early Booking savings up to 38% are available, along with free and reduced air add-ons from the line’s 26 North American gateway cities.

The South American deployment continues the line’s expansion of winter itineraries following six seasons in Antarctica. (February 9, 2010) -- Destination specialist Voyages of Discovery will embark on its first-ever circumnavigation of South America next January, with cruises and cruise combinations from ten to 77 nights. The season begins with a 20-night “Discovery of the New World” transatlantic crossing from Malaga to Barbados, sailing Nov. 18, with calls at Cadiz, Antigua and St. Kitts, and a three-night post-cruise hotel stay in Bridgetown. Fares start at $2,779 per person, double.

The Winter 2010/11 season also features a selection of pre-, post- and mid-cruise overland tours, including a three-night excursion to the Iguassu Falls from Buenos Aires ($1,255 per person) and a two-night mid-cruise excursion visiting Machu Picchu from Callao ($1,315 per person).

Guests also can experience a day trip to the Galapagos Islands from Manta, Ecuador, or a three- or four-night cruise around the islands on the 100-passenger Galapagos Explorer II.
