Fred Olsen Cruises Boudicca Embarks on Amazon River Cruise From UK
Cruisers looking for adventure could hardly do better than to join Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Boudicca for her ‘Amazon Adventure’ cruise, D1301, departing from Portsmouth on 5th January 2013 – an amazing opportunity to explore the fascinating world of the mighty Amazon River. The outward voyage of this exotic 35-night cruise travels via the ‘Garden Isle’ of Madeira, visiting capital Funchal, then Mindelo in the Cape Verde Islands. From Macapa (Brazil), Boudicca enters the mighty Amazon River, travelling as far as Manaus (Brazil), some 900 miles up-river.
The ship then travels to the heart of the Amazon, and there are many cruise tours available for greater insight into this exotic region: from Santarem (Brazil), guests can travel to the Santa Lucia Woods and enjoy a guided walk along forest trails; at Boca da Valeria (Brazil), they can meet a community of local villagers, living in wooden stilt houses. Another highlight is viewing the astonishing buildings of Manaus (Brazil), built by the rubber barons in the late 19th Century, which are splendidly ornate and ostentatious. The exotic wildlife, vibrant colours, and sounds of the Amazon will live on in the memory for years to come.
On the return voyage, Boudicca departs the Amazon via Parintins (Brazil) and Macapa (Brazil), and continues to the white sands and crystal blue waters of the Caribbean; guests can gently 'kick back' and cruise the Caribbean islands of Tobago, St. Vincent, Barbados, Antigua and St. Lucia.
This fascinating cruise has an additional attraction; the appropriate theme of ‘Amazonia’ through Fred. Olsen’s award-winning onboard enrichment programme. Expert talks and lectures on the history and culture of this amazing region will enhance guests’ experience and knowledge, at no extra cost.
Prices for this exciting cruise start from £4,469 per person, based on two adults sharing an outside, twin cabin, Grade ‘E’. The price includes all meals and entertainment on board, and port taxes.

Fred Olsen's Boudicca Is To Sail From Belfast Ireland in 2013
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will commence calls from Belfast in 2013, with 880-guest Boudicca making two turnaround visits in October 2013. Matt Grimes, Director of Planning for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said:
“I am delighted that Boudicca will be operating two exciting itineraries from Belfast Harbour in 2013. This is great news for all our guests living in the local area, as previously they have had to endure an expensive flight or long ferry crossing to reach our ships. Now, they can choose from an autumn escape to the sun or a mini cruise to Liverpool, where the ship will berth right in the heart of this vibrant city.
“The addition of this new regional departure port means that Fred. Olsen is able to operate a vessel within a radius of only 100 miles from 90% of the UK population, further enhancing our reputation as the UK’s local cruise line with a global choice of itineraries.”
Boudicca will be offering a 12-night Iberian and 2-night mini cruise to Liverpool from Belfast in October 2013.
Joe O’Neill, Commercial Director, Belfast Harbour, said:
“We are delighted to once again have the opportunity to work with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and offer the Northern Ireland public the opportunity to begin a cruise from their local port.
Belfast Harbour previously worked alongside Fred. Olsen in 2007, when 500 local people embarked on the Black Prince to begin their cruise.
In recent years, Belfast Harbour has invested significantly in its facilities to further develop Belfast’s port as a tourism gateway to Northern Ireland; consequently, we are delighted to see the cruise facilities now being used for the benefit of local people.”
Fred. Olsen will also be adding Harwich to its list of regional departure ports in 2013, with Boudicca’s sister ship, Black Watch, operating four fascinating itineraries from the Port in May and June 2013, meaning that guests living in the local area can take advantage of Harwich International Port’s excellent road and rail connections, and state-of-the-art facilities.

Fred Olsen Lines Offers Antique Theme Cruises in 2012
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines – awarded ‘Best Educational Cruise’ by readers of Cruise International magazine in 2011 – is offering three cruises in 2012 with ‘Antiques’ as the special topic, through its acclaimed onboard enrichment programme, Vistas. On each cruise, there will be celebrated experts from the world of antiques, sharing their knowledge and passion with like-minded guests. Each of these experts appears as an appraiser on the BBC’s celebrated and long-running ‘Antiques Roadshow.’Antiques-collecting is one of the UK’s most popular pastimes; the popularity of antiques fairs and auctions continues unabated, with TV shows like 'Antiques Roadshow', ‘Cash in the Attic’ and ‘Flog It!‘ going from strength to strength. So, what better way to indulge an interest in antiques than taking a cruise to some of Europe's most interesting cities, brimming with a wealth of art and antique collections, in the company of the most knowledgeable experts in the field?
The Fred. Olsen experts are:-
Lars Tharp
The Danish-born historian, lecturer and broadcaster is one of the longest-standing experts on the ‘Antiques Roadshow’. Will has featured as an expert on the ‘20th Century Roadshow’, and is now in his fourth season as an expert with the ‘Antiques Roadshow’.
Marc Allum
Marc has been a miscellaneous specialist on the ‘Antiques Roadshow’ for 12 years. His interest in antiques began as a child, buying and collecting from an early age, and later becoming an auctioneer and Director of a London auction house; a career he pursued for 16 years. Marc has worked on many other television programmes, including ‘20th Century Roadshow’, ‘Going for a Song’, Bargain Hunt’, ‘Cash in the Attic’ and ‘Moving Day’, in addition to appearing on Discovery Television, Channel Four News and various radio shows.

Clive then joined the auctioneers Dreweatt Neate in 1982, and now heads their Fine Art Department. His specialties are pictures, works of art, and Oriental ceramics. On the ‘Antiques Roadshow’, his areas of expertise are books, miscellaneous, pictures and paintings.
Paul Viney
