Oasis of the Seas 7 God Mothers.

November 10, 2009 - Oasis of the Seas will have seven godmothers, one for each of the ship’s neighborhoods.

Each will start in her own neighborhood, then all will convene at the AquaTheater for the formal naming, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Richard Fain discloses in his latest Chairman’s Blog.

The godmothers will cut a ribbon that needs seven snips to release the bottle. Seven scissors are already prepared in a special carrying case for the Nov. 30 event, to take place at Port Everglades.

‘An extraordinary and innovative ship deserves an extraordinary and innovative naming,’ Fain writes.

The identities of the godmothers have not been revealed.

Disney Cruise Line Unveils Disney Dream Details.

(Oct. 29, 2009) – A first-of-its kind water coaster that sends guests racing above the upper decks of the ship. An animated turtle that engages children in conversation about life in the ocean. A sophisticated lounge where the sun sets over the skyline of a different world-famous city each night. When the Disney Dream debuts in early 2011, the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet will bring to life these innovations and more.

The Disney Dream will take family cruising to all-new heights, embracing the spirit of innovation, magical family entertainment and immersive experiences that have made Disney Cruise Line the preeminent cruise of choice for families since 1998.

Disney Cruise Line revolutionized the cruise industry with purpose-built ships designed just for families. With the Disney Dream setting sail on Jan. 26, 2011, preparations are underway to expand the one-of-a-kind family experience, utilizing technology to enhance the world-class entertainment and legendary guest services onboard. From stem to stern, the Disney Dream will offer a cruise experience that caters to the preferences of the whole family.

“For more than a decade, passengers have filled their passports with memories sailing around the world with Disney Cruise Line,” said Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo. “With the Disney Dream joining our fleet, we’ll be able to take families to even more places they never imagined they could visit – in true Disney style.”

The Disney Dream features a remarkable interior design which provides guests with a warm and welcoming feel throughout. The ship’s design offers guests a perfect blend of elegant Art Deco style and fun-filled Disney whimsy to create one of the most spectacular ships afloat. Distinctly Disney guest features aboard the Disney Dream include:

AquaDuck Water Coaster. . .

Disney Cruise Line debuts a cruise-industry first: a shipboard water coaster … AquaDuck! Guests aboard the Disney Dream will get swept away on an exhilarating high-speed flume ride featuring twists, turns, drops, uphill acceleration and river rapids – all while traversing the upper decks of the ship.

■AquaDuck stretches 765 feet in length - more than two and a half times the length of a football field - and spans four decks in height.
■Guests slide 13 feet over the side of the ship in a translucent "swing out" loop allowing them to look down on the ocean 150 feet below.
■Guests experience coaster-like thrills as high-powered water jets push them upwards and forwards at 20 feet per second.
■AquaDuck continues through the forward funnel, encounters a 335 foot stretch of river rapids and splashes down to an end on Deck 12.

A Virtual Porthole for Inside Staterooms. . .

Disney Cruise Line introduces another stateroom innovation with all inside staterooms on the Disney Dream featuring a Virtual Porthole that provides guests with a real-time view outside the ship. High-definition cameras placed on the exterior of the ship feed live video to each Virtual Porthole.

As guests observe the impressive outside views, they may glimpse a magical surprise: animated characters such as Peach the starfish from the Disney•Pixar hit film “Finding Nemo,” or Mickey Mouse may pop by the Virtual Porthole.

A Magical Oasis for Children. . .

Only on a Disney Cruise Line ship can children become immersed in their favorite Disney stories with the help of caring counselors, beloved Disney characters and a sprinkling of pixie dust. The celebration of children’s creativity rises to a new level on the Disney Dream with nearly an entire deck of youth spaces designed to inspire, entertain and unlock the imagination of children. There are two main spaces for children ages three to 10:

At Disney’s Oceaneer Club, children can:

■Play among larger-than-life characters from Disney•Pixar's "Toy Story" in Andy's Room
■Explore the Laugh Floor with loveable monsters Mike and Sully from "Monsters, Inc."
■Dive under the sea with Nemo and friends or visit Tinker Bell's fairy forest

At Disney’s Oceaneer Lab, children feel as though they are embarking on a great seafaring adventure in a room filled with maps, maritime instruments and swashbuckling artifacts. Here, children can try their hand at animation, become a pop star or navigate ships through digital seas.

Both venues offer magical interactions with the animated characters such as Crush, the sea turtle from the Disney•Pixar motion picture “Finding Nemo” and Stitch, the mischievous alien from “Lilo and Stitch.” The characters chat, play and joke with children in live, unrehearsed conversations from their digital undersea and intergalactic environments via 103-inch plasma screens.

Chill-Out Zones for Tweens and Teens. . .

Located inside the forward funnel is Edge – the lounge just for tweens (ages 11 to 13). This tween pad is filled with a multitude of hi-tech entertainment including the ability to create and star in photo postcards and video karaoke using green-screen technology.

Teens have their own exclusive club aboard the Disney Dream with Vibe – a trendy and inviting indoor/outdoor space created especially for guests ages 14 to 17. A “teen-only” swipe card provides access to the nearly 9,000-square-foot club.

Teens can create and edit videos, play computer games, access the onboard social media application or try their hand at spinning and mixing dance tracks. Teens have their own private outdoor deck area with chaise lounges for sunbathing, two wading pools, misters and pop jets for cooling off, and deck games such as ping-pong and foosball.

Personal Touches with Rotational Dining. . .

Disney Cruise Line continues its innovative rotational dining concept onboard the Disney Dream with elaborately themed restaurants, distinctly Disney touches, and world-class cuisine to create a magical dining experience. Throughout the cruise, guests “rotate” through three different restaurants for dinner – with their servers accompanying them, providing guests with friendly, familiar, personalized service each night. The rotational dining restaurants include:

■ Animator's Palate, a signature Disney Cruise Line restaurant that brings the magic of Disney animation into the dining room for a unique experience that will captivate the entire family.
■Royal Palace, an elegant restaurant inspired by the classic Disney films "Cinderella," "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," " Beauty and the Beast" and "Sleeping Beauty."
■Enchanged Garden, a whimsical casual restaurant inspired by the gardens of Versailles and featuring a dining environment that magically transforms from day to night.

Just for Adults. . .

On the Disney Dream, while children are having the time of their lives in the elaborately themed youth areas, adults can look forward to incomparable indulgences and relaxation with exclusive areas and offerings designed exclusively for them.

■Adults can escape in to The District, a nighttime entertainment area on the Disney Dream with five unique venues. This playground for grownups features sophisticated lounges, each with its own unique design, look, feel and palate-pleaseing delights.
■Senses Spa & Salon offers adult tranquility with 17 private treatment rooms, lavish spa villas with indoor treatment rooms and private outdoor verandahs, and Rainforest, a special section of the spa offering the benefits of steam, heat and hydrotherapy to relax the mind and body.
■At Palo, adult guests find epicurean excellence and an unforgettable dinner experience at sea. Every seat offers beautiful ocean vistas while a pianist softly serenades guests in an intimate restaurant setting.
The Disney Dream is scheduled to depart on its maiden voyage Jan. 26, 2011, and will sail alternating three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. During summer months, the ship will alternate four- and five-night itineraries with two stops at Castaway Cay. Guests can book their Disney Dream cruise beginning Nov. 9, 2009.

Princess Offers Family Alaska Excursions

(October 9, 2009) – With its stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and plethora of active adventure opportunities, Alaska offers the perfect family vacation. To make it easier for families to plan a trip to the 49th state, Princess Cruises has added a fun new cruisetour option designed especially with family groups in mind.

The 12-night cruisetour offers the best of Alaska by land and sea and includes a variety of special features not usually included in a cruisetour package. Families will have the opportunity to travel on a jetboat, pan for gold, take an interactive tour of Denali National Park, and experience what Alaska is like in the winter when it’s many degrees below zero.

The cruisetour (number: FUN) is offered at a 25 percent discount for all berths, so all members of the family are included in the special pricing.

“This is really the ultimate family vacation,” said Charlie Ball, president of Princess Tours. “Alaska is a wonderful travel destination with kids, so we wanted to make it easy and affordable to plan the perfect Alaska experience for everyone in the family.”

The Family Fun cruisetour includes a seven-night Voyage of the Glaciers cruise plus a five-night land tour featuring one night at Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, two nights at Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge and two nights at Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge. At sea, families can also take advantage of Princess’ many onboard programs especially for children, including a special Junior Ranger program in Glacier Bay National Park.

Direct-to-the-Wilderness Rail Service with Lunch – Princess’ acclaimed Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service gets families to their wilderness lodge faster, and includes lunch aboard the train.

Three Rivers Jetboat Tour (Mt. McKinley) – An exhilarating alternative to taking a motorcoach to Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, this tour travels from Talkeetna to the lodge by jetboat, with stops along the river to view historic encampments and learn about the native wildlife.

Arctic Blast (Denali) – Family members can experience winter in Alaska – in the summertime. This special chamber is chilled to wintertime temperatures, so visitors can find out what happens to hot water when it is thrown in the air and whether soap bubbles can survive the cold.

Music of Denali Dinner Theater (Denali) – This rollicking musical comedy tells the legend of the first expedition to the summit of Mt. McKinley, accompanied by a hearty, family-style meal featuring smokehouse ribs and Alaska salmon.

Experience Alaska with Alaska Geographic Tour (Denali) – A more intimate tour of Denali National Park, this special experience includes a variety of interactive experiences, including an enhanced view of the Denali ecosystem and current research taking place. Denali Sourdough Expedition Breakfast (Denali) – While fueling up for the day with a family-style, Alaskan roadhouse-style breakfast, guests experience an unforgettable journey up Denali through breathtaking images in Laurent Dick's Climb Denali. Participants have the opportunity to meet this real mountain climber and ask questions about mountain climbing.

Riverboat Cruise and El Dorado Goldmine Tour (Fairbanks) – Families can enjoy traveling on an authentic sternwheeler for a fully-narrated cruise along the Chena River and try their hands at gold panning at the El Dorado Gold Mine, where they will learn about Alaska's gold mining history.

Expedition Cruise Specialist Hurtigruten Special Cruises and Themes Cruises

October 2009 -- New Year's Eve on the North Cape, Opera in Oslo, Viking history and myth, air-inclusive vacations, the midnight sun, the Northern Lights, stunning fjords, wildlife at every turn...the list of cruise and land opportunities goes on and on and is detailed in Hurtigruten's new full-color, 80-page 2010 Norway brochure. Hurtigruten, a name synonymous with exploration cruising, continues to find more ways to showcase their year-round home, adding new theme cruises and shore excursions and packaging air, land and sea into easy to book vacations.

The centerpiece of nearly every offer are the six-, seven- and 12-day sailings along the spectacular fjord-filled west coast of Norway year-round -- a voyage named the “world’s most beautiful voyage” by Lonely Planet’s “Bluelist.” The scenery changes from moment to moment as the company's fleet of modern ships, journeying 1,250 miles between Bergen and Kirkenes, make 34 port calls -- small fishing villages in the rugged Lofoten Islands, Art Nouveau Alesund, the ancient Viking capital of Trondheim and Norway's "Paris of the North" Tromso. Cruise-only fares range from $1,205 to $6,622 per person, double with many prices reduced for early booking. Solo travelers avoid the single supplement on a large number of departures.

Coastal Value Packages - these 9- to 15-day independent adventure vacations offer a way to take in many of Norway's best sites without having to worry about booking flights or hotels - a one-stop, all-inclusive option with daily departures, year-round. One night is spent in both Bergen and Oslo, bookending the cruise, where guests have plenty of free time to explore and sightsee -- Oslo's Vigeland Park, Viking Ship Museum, the new Opera House, and many small shops selling unique Norwegian jewelry and other treasures. Walking the cobblestone streets of Bergen offers sights that include its Art Museum, with more than 9,000 works of art; St. Mary’s Church, the oldest building in Bergen; composer Edvard Grieg's home; and the wooden buildings in the Bryggen Wharf. The nine-day "Norwegian Holiday" incorporates the six-day south-bound sailing, departing from Kirkenes, above the Arctic Circle. The 10-day "Highlights of Norway" sails seven days on the northbound route. The 15-day "Grand Norway" offers guests the 12-day roundtrip, allowing them to see during the day what they may have missed at night in the other direction. Airfare is from New York with add-ons from dozens of North American gateways priced from $100 to $360. Air fuel surcharges, air and cruise taxes and ticketing fees are additional.

Theme Voyages - as more travelers look to bring home memories of unique and educational experiences, Hurtigruten has sought out the interests of their passengers and is offering an expanded roster of even more fascinating possibilities for 2010.

· "Celebrations in the Arctic" brings in the New Year as no one else can - with the countdown held on the North Cape, Europe's most northern point - Dec. 26, 2009 and Dec. 27, 2010.

· "Notes at Sea" is an opera-lover's dream trip - daily concerts on board and a Norwegian New Year's Concert at Oslo's brand-new Opera House - Jan. 5, 2010.

· "The Rhythm & Fabric of Life" showcases the deep-rooted traditions of the Norwegian culture, mixing music, crafts, dance and folk culture. Guests enjoy learning to folk dance and see how traditional instruments are made - Jan. 5, 2010

· "Lords of the Fjords" is a step back in time to when the Vikings ruled the waters and land. Onboard experts provide talks and entertainment, immersing the passenger in the Viking history and culture - Apr. 7 and Sept. 23, 2010.

· "Tastes & Sounds of the Fjords" is a series of choir, jazz and classical concerts, cooking lessons and wine tastings combined to create a unique culinary experience - while in the midst of the majestic beauty of the fjords - Apr. 15 and Sept 16, 2010

· "Norway's Big Day Out" is what it sounds like - a celebration of Norway's Constitution Day (May 17). Children's parades and festivities take play across the nation and guests learn about the country's history from experts - six May 2010 departures.

· "Hall of the Mountain King" explores the life of Edvard Grieg. Performances by pianist Rune Alver and talks by lecturer Eilif B. Lotveit bring to life Norway's renown composer - with daily recitals and daily lectures - Oct. 10 & 16, 2010.

· "The Ice-Breakers" - Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen were two of Norway's greatest explorers. And guests will learn more about them from famous lecturer Arne Kertelhein as the ship follows some their Norway routes - Oct. 11 & 18, 2010.

· "Birds of the Nordic Coast" takes place as millions of migrating birds return to the Arctic for nesting - a true ornithological event with lectures and stellar bird-watching opportunities - May 20, 2010.

Excursions and Explorations - getting off the ship and enjoying the local scene and sights has always been an important feature of Hurtigruten cruises, so the company has developed dozens of high-quality excursions for their guests. Port excursions range from city tours of Alesund and Tromso to the more unusual "Lofotr Viking Feast" - a true Viking feast, banquet hall and all - and a "Quad-Safari to the Russian Border," to the simply fun: "Dog Sledding in Tromso" and "Scootertrip in Lapland" (snowmobiles). Pre- and post-cruise explorations, ranging in length from a few hours to three days, offer wonderful opportunities to experience Norway in all its glory. Among the offerings - guests can spend two days in the Snowhotel in Kirkenes, sleeping on ice beds; float in a survival suit in the Barents Sea while the team leader dives for the evening's meal of King Crab; dog sled and snowshoe in Kirkenes; take the train from Bergen to Voss, a boat to Flam and a train to Myrdal on "Norway in a Nutshell"; and visit the mining town of Roros, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Most optional excursions can be booked before

Sailing aboard Hurtigruten ships means large, comfortable lounges with panoramic windows and wonderful views from large outdoor decks; no need to dress up for dinner (unless you want to) and open seating; fresh seasonal ingredients, plenty of incredible seafood and a comprehensive wine list; multilingual tour directors; comfortable cabins - from the smaller inside accommodations to the large outside suites with private balconies, picture windows and even Jacuzzis on some; and a friendly and well-informed crew, ready to offer assistance and their suggestions when asked.

Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition cruising, sailing to the most remote of destinations including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic’s Spitsbergen as well as year round along Norway's coast.

President Susie Ellis. “Now that there are roughly 15,000 hotel, resort and destination spas operating worldwide, for Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 Canyon Ranch SpaClub to be singled out by our readers is a tremendous honor.”

"After five successful years in partnership with Canyon Ranch, this prestigious SpaFinder award confirms our choice and ongoing commitment to offer Queen Mary 2 guests the premier wellness experience at sea," said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line.

To help consumers identify the very best spas for their specific goals, SpaFinder asked its readers and web visitors to name their top picks for the best spas in 27 unique categories—from “Best for Affordability” and “Best Cuisine” to “Best for Men” and “Best Medical Program.” Voters were asked to only cast ballots for stay spas they’ve personally visited within the past three years.

The World of Residency Bering Sea Exploration

October 13, 2009 – The World, the first and only private residential community at sea, made maritime history during its recent voyage to the Russian Arctic region. The ground-breaking, 28-day Bering Sea Expedition provided Residents and Guests with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore remote communities and cultures, observe rare wildlife in a natural environment and sail aboard the first ship to do so in decades, all during the brief Arctic summer. The Expedition was unlike any other, astounding even the long-time Residents who have sailed since The World’s 2002 maiden voyage. For those that took advantage of The World’s rental program, The Bering Sea Expedition proved to be a one of a kind, premier vacation experience.

Successfully landing in Lorino Village The World is the first ship of its size to ever visit a this community in the Chukotka region. Locals embraced Residents and Guests, welcoming them with native performances and entertainment. The vessel continued its historic voyage when it traversed the Bering Strait, which separates the easternmost point of Russia from Alaska , just a few days later.
One of the Expedition’s most memorable moments occurred when navigating the Bering Strait, a channel separating the United States and Russia . Due to standard cabotage laws, the ship could not cross back into U.S. waters, requiring the Captain to keep the 43,524-ton vessel on the Russian side, even at the Strait’s narrowest point – an infamous, two-mile-wide passage separating Little Diomede and Big Diomede Islands. “Hundreds of thousands of birds swooped past us as we came up the channel,” said Resident, Alison Holland. “We were only a few cable lengths from the Russian shore as we were not cleared to re-enter U.S. waters and thus had to hug the Russian side.” Divided not only by an international border but The International Dateline, The World is the first foreign-flagged ship to sail between the Islands on the Russian side since World War II.

The vessel continued to make history as it approached Wrangel Island , renowned for its incredible wildlife. An incredible 104 polar bears were spotted during The World’s 10-day stay – more than most ships see in an entire summer. Residents and Guests enjoyed a memorable polar bear encounter from the bridge and bow when an inquisitive mother and cub polar approached the ship to greet them. There have been only four vessels carrying private travelers to visit Wrangel Island in Russia ’s vast history and The World is the first foreign-flagged ship to do so since 1924.

Following Wrangel Island , The World continued to sail 70 miles until reaching the ice cap’s edge, which extends all the way to the North Pole. Once anchored, the captain lowered the retractable marina so that Residents and Guests could partake in the “Polar Plunge,” a courageous dive often attempted by North Pole travelers. 35 adventurous souls participated in the daring excursion, plunging into 0.7 °C (33.3 °F) waters and quickly jumping out.

Such once-in-a-lifetime opportunities can only be experienced aboard The World as regular ports of call and upcoming Expeditions include major metropolitan cities, rural villages, UNESCO World Heritage sites and more. When sailing aboard The World, all meals, select alcoholic beverages, gratuities and port charges are included. Guests who avail of the ship’s exceptional rental program are invited to customize their own sails. The ship also offers a regular selection of Expeditions as well as Stay a Six Nights and Get the Seventh Free program where travelers can receive one night free for every six booked until December 22, 2010. To save even more, each additional week spent on the ship will result in one more complimentary night and there is no limit on the length of stay or number of complimentary nights.

In November 2009, the ship will visit Papua New Guinea where voyagers will dive rainbow reefs, trek volcanoes and visit the rainforest and desert savannah marsupials (23 nights/$18,500 per person). In September 2010, Residents and Guests will sail from Reykjavik , Iceland to Quebec , Canada a Greenland Expedition that will explore the globe’s largest island, its rich Nordic and Paleo-Eskimo history, abundant wildlife and stunning scenery. Two unforgettable Antarctica Expeditions will end the year, affording travelers the opportunity to visit the coldest, driest, highest and windiest of the seven continents. Penguins and seals will float alongside The World on sculpted icebergs as vacationers access the land via kayaks and Zodiacs. The first 10-night sail, from December 23, 2010 – January 2, 2011 will start from $19,500 per person. The second, 18-night voyage, from January 3 – 21, 2011, will begin at $35,100 per person.

About The World:

The World® is the only residential community at sea, allowing its Residents and Guests to travel the world without leaving the comforts of a private home. There is an average of 150 adventurous and like-minded explorers onboard at once, traveling to intriguing destinations all over the globe. This ship offers an elegant and intimate travel lifestyle with impeccable service and amenities that deliver a personalized and bespoke experience. Guests will save up to $1,550 per person ($3,100 per cabin) and receive FREE round trip international airfare from five select U.S. Cities: San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago (ORD), Washington D.C. (IAD or DCA) and New York (JFK) or an air credit of $750 per person by booking and paying in full by December 18, 2009. The free air or air credit is valid for Voyages 1 through 18 of the 24-voyage segments of the Voyages of the Great Explorers.

The best value afloat.

With most cruises, guests pay extra for every little thing (and big things) such as soft drinks, taxes and port charges, and shore excursions. But with Cruise West, the fare includes everything except alcohol. There are no surprise charges that can easily add up to double the fare or more.

Cruise West includes a shore excursion in every port, and in addition, each of the 24 voyages includes one ‘Ultimate Explorers Experience.’ A sampling includes tickets to Edinburgh’s world-famous Military Tattoo, the chance to participate in the special novitiate ceremony and feeding of the monks in Rangoon, or an overnight stay in Sydney Harbor during its magnificent New Year’s Eve celebration and fireworks display. These are once-in-a-lifetime events that only a small number of travelers will ever see.

This is the world that most people have never seen.

Each of the 24 journeys of the Voyages of the Great Explorers takes guests to the “must see” sights—Pompeii, Petra, Florence, Luxor, the Hermitage, the Guggenheim. Board a Zodiac bound for an uninhabited island in the Maldives or a remote village in the Tuomotus. Travel the narrow Corinth Canal and Kiel Canal where big ships can’t go. Visit tiny islands in the South Pacific like Pitcairn Island of HMS Bounty fame, and Palmerston Island, where all 50 residents are descended from one Englishman. In fact, these voyages will visit 85 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Further, engaging presentations by Smithsonian Journeys guest lecturers and renowned experts on each region’s culture, history and current events will bring each itinerary to life.

Celebrity Solstice and Equinox Win Conde' Nast Awards

October 21, 2009 – Celebrity Cruises has once again won top honors in one of the most trusted surveys of consumer travel preferences in the world. The prestigious Conde' Nast Traveler magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards ranked Celebrity number one in the new Mega-Ship Cruise Lines category, recognizing the widely heralded Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox.

More than 25,000 experienced travelers made their voices heard in the prestigious annual poll ranking more than 10,000 cruise lines, hotels, resorts, cities, islands, airlines and car rental agencies. Celebrity Cruises was among the honorees featured in a segment airing Monday on NBC’s Today Show to highlight what led to the number-one ranking.

"Winning first-place in the new mega-ship category is an incredible tribute to the style, design and service that have led to the phenomenal response our new Solstice Class continues to generate, and further validates our fleet's longtime leadership position in the premium cruise category," said Celebrity’s President & CEO Dan Hanrahan. "We’re honored that the informed readers of Conde' Nast Traveler so appreciate the Celebrity experience."

No stranger to netting top honors, the Celebrity Cruises fleet as a whole has, for the past seven consecutive years, dominated the large-ship category in Conde' Nast Traveler’s "Top Cruise Ships in the World" survey published each February.

Cruise lines were rated on a five-point scale – excellent, very good, good, fair or poor – in seven categories: activities, cabins, service, design, food/dining, itineraries, and shore excursions.

Hurtigruten Norwegian Fjords Voyages

October 2009 -- National Geographic Traveler magazine has placed the Norwegian fjords, a highlight of Hurtigruten's Coastal Voyage, at the top of its list of the world’s most celebrated and iconic travel destinations - based on its survey undertaken in cooperation with the National Geographic Center for Sustainable destinations. This is the third time in the six-year history of the venerated magazine's "Places Rated" Destination Stewardship survey that the Norwegian fjords have topped the list. This honor follows the 2007 Lofoten Islands' designation as the world's third best island destination - another daily stop on the Coastal Voyage - and reinforces Lonely Planet's "Blue List" description of Hurtigruten's Coastal Voyage as the "world's most beautiful voyage."

"The integrity and world renown of National Geographic, as well as its global penetration makes this one of the most important awards in travel industry internationally," says Christian Bue Nordahl, Global Brand Manager at Hurtigruten ASA. "The fact that the Norwegian fjords have once again topped the list is an affirmation of the unique natural assets that we possess. We are delighted by the results and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Fjord Norway on its success.”

More than 100,000 foreign visitors cruised the fjords and the rest of Norway's spectacular 1,250-mile west coast in 2008, aboard one of Hurtigruten's 11 modern ships that sail these waters daily, year-round. Besides the fjords, Hurtigruten guests get to visit an eclectic array of ports (34 in all), including Trondheim, one of the country’s oldest cities and a thriving university town; Bergen, a charming Hanseatic port; the Lofoten archipelago, with peaked mountains and villages filled with rust-red fishermen’s cabins; and Alesund, destroyed by fire in 1904 and completely rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style.

About the survey: 133 destinations were surveyed by 437 travel experts, and rated based on the following six criteria: environmental and ecological quality; social and cultural integrity; condition of historic buildings and archaeological sites; aesthetic appeal; quality of tourism management and outlook for the future.

Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition cruising, sailing daily along the Norwegian coast as well as to the most remote of destinations including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic’s Spitsbergen.

SeaDream Passengers Take a Dip in the Atlantic.

What do guests aboard a SeaDream Yacht Club transatlantic crossing do on a beautiful, calm day at latitude 26 degrees, 28 minutes- longitude 39 degrees 40 minutes, 958 nautical miles from the Azores and 1541 nautical miles from their destination, San Juan Puerto Rico?

Why, take a swim in the Atlantic Ocean of course.

SeaDream II’s Captain Terje Willasen monitored Atlantic sea conditions each day after departing Seville, Spain on October 10. “Guests had been telling me they would like to take a swim in the Atlantic and at dawn on Thursday October 15, I knew that this was the day. The seas were as still as a pond.”

Under the close supervision of staffers, guests who wished to were invited to take a dip in the Atlantic from the SeaDream II’s stern Marina and bobbed about in the blue sea.

Later, in a special ceremony, the Captain awarded his Atlantic swim team a “Certificate of Accomplishment” to highlight the feat. “It’s just an example, of SeaDream Yacht Club going the extra mile---in this case the extra nautical mile in mid-Atlantic,” the Captain said.

Certainly SeaDream II’s transatlantic guests had other diversions during the 10-day voyages from Seville, Spain to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Among them award-winning gourmet dining, yoga, tai chi, spa treatments, long walks on open decks, the pleasure of good books and good conversation, a series of interesting lectures---and even, an occasional swim in the yacht’s onboard swimming pool.

The mega-yacht cruiser SeaDream II and her twin SeaDream I have only 56 accommodations for lucky guests and just about a one-to-one ratio of crew to passengers.
