Cunard Line has renewed its commitment to the joy of dressing up on-board “The Most Famous Ocean Liners in the World” with an update to its dress codes, while at the same time encouraging the loosening of ties on its less formal nights.

Research with existing passengers and luxury travelers generally has led Cunard to strengthen the Line’s commitment to special occasion dressing three times a week on its Transatlantic Crossings and twice each week on sailings to the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and beyond.

However, also in response to growing travel trends, Cunard is adjusting its advice on dress codes for other nights. The result: along with two or three formal nights each week, there will be four or five “informal” evenings where jackets are required but ties will now become optional, heightening the sense of anticipation for formal nights even more.

Princess Cruises' Crown Princess Sails Alaskan Waters in 2014

Princess Cruises has opened the books on its 2014 Alaska cruise and cruisetour season, which will feature the debut of the line’s largest ship in the state, Crown Princess, plus the return of small-ship cruising aboard Pacific Princess.

Throughout the 2014 season, passengers have the opportunity to explore the best of Alaska by both land and sea, with a selection of sailing options aboard seven ships as well as a variety of Princess’ signature cruisetour options to experience the heart of the state at the company’s own riverside wilderness lodges.

Highlights of the program include Crown Princess’ debut in the 49th state, Princess’ largest ship to sail in the region, which will cruise on the line’s popular “Voyage of the Glaciers” route through the scenic Gulf of Alaska, joined by Coral Princess and Island Princess. Small ship Pacific Princess, which last sailed in Alaska in 2009, will again bring its intimate cruise experience to Inside Passage cruises from Vancouver. Golden Princess and Grand Princess will offer Inside Passage cruises from Seattle, and Star Princess will depart on 11-day Inside Passage journeys from San Francisco.

The cruisetour program combines a seven-day “Voyage of the Glaciers” cruise with three to eight additional nights on land exploring Alaska’s interior. Passengers can pick their perfect Alaska experience with four types of land and sea packages – Denali Explorer, On Your Own, Off the Beaten Path and Connoisseur. All Princess cruisetours include the company’s exclusive wilderness lodges, rail or motorcoach travel, plus the top two attractions in the state – Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park, where visitors spend at least one night exploring the wonders of this area.

“We will once again lead the way in Alaska next year, offering our most diverse choice of ships ever,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “And more than half of our Inside Passage sailings include a visit to Glacier Bay National Park. This number-one Alaska attraction is always a highlight with its dazzling blue glaciers.”

Princess’ 2014 Alaska program includes:

Cruises – Passengers have a variety of options for exploring “The Great Land,” with seven ships sailing on seven itineraries to more than 14 destinations. In total, the line will offer 123 Alaska cruise departures in 2014.

Voyage of the Glaciers – Princess’ favorite Gulf of Alaska route between Vancouver and Whittier (for Anchorage) features two glacier-viewing experiences on every sailing, with visits to Glacier Bay National Park plus either Hubbard Glacier or College Fjord. Ships also call at Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. Crown Princess will join Coral Princess on this signature itinerary for Saturday departures, and Island Princess will set sail on Wednesdays. In total, the ships will offer 54 sailing choices between May 10 and September 17, 2014.

Inside Passage from Seattle – Golden Princess and Grand Princess offer convenient weekend departures on two different seven-day roundtrip itineraries from Seattle along the scenic Inside Passage. Both visit Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, B.C., and passengers will enjoy dramatic glacier viewing in either Glacier Bay National Park (Golden Princess) or Tracy Arm (Grand Princess). The two ships will sail on 38 departures between May 3 and September 14, 2014.

Inside Passage from Vancouver – Pacific Princess will offer an intimate cruise experience on a seven-day roundtrip cruise from Vancouver, taking in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan plus dramatic glacier viewing in either Glacier Bay National Park or Tracy Arm Fjord. The ship will offer 19 sailings between May 13 and September 16, 2014.

Inside Passage from San Francisco – Star Princess will sail from the “City by the Bay” on 11-day roundtrip cruises. The ship offers 12 voyages from San Francisco featuring the scenery of Glacier Bay National Park or Tracy Arm Fjord, with calls at Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria (with some sailings substituting Icy Strait Point). Departures sail between May 12 and September 10, 2014.

Cruisetours – Princess cruisetours offer passengers 23 itinerary options for a complete land and sea Alaska experience ranging from 10 to 15 nights. All cruisetours include a seven-day Voyage of the Glaciers sailing including a visit to Glacier Bay National Park, plus up to four nights in the Denali National Park area with stays at Princess’ riverside wilderness lodges.

Denali Explorer – Princess’ most popular cruisetour option, Denali Explorer packages feature multiple nights at the line’s Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge and/or Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, plus the exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service between the Whittier cruise terminal and the dramatic Denali National Park area. Most also offer the opportunity to explore Fairbanks or Anchorage.

On Your Own – An affordable option for independent-minded travelers, these tours offer a flexible way to see the Heart of Alaska. Tours follow similar routes as Denali Explorer options, but do not include any pre-planned excursions, giving travelers the opportunity to customize their own experience.

Off the Beaten Path – For those who want to explore Denali and beyond, these tours offer options to the Kenai Peninsula with stays at Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge or Wrangell-St. Elias National Park with stays at Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge.

Connoisseur – These cruisetour options offer the services of a professional tour director and additional time for passengers to experience the Great Land. Offering the highest level of service, these tours include most meals and enhanced sightseeing options.

Norwegian
Getaway will bring the excitement and allure of the Magic City to sea
when she arrives in Miami in February 2014. At Cruise Shipping Miami
today, Norwegian Cruise Line (NASDAQ: NCLH) announced an all-new dining
and entertainment experience, The Illusionarium. A first of its kind at
sea, The Illusionarium will envelope guests in the fascinating world of
magic, inviting them to experience the astonishing illusions of
world-class magicians and supernatural special effects.
“I am so excited about this new magical experience that will come to
life aboard Norwegian Getaway,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise
Line’s chief executive officer. “The Illusionarium will be an experience
unlike anything at sea today and take adults and children alike on a
journey into the mystical world of magic. This is so perfect for the
ship that will embody the vibe of the Magic City.”

The new experience is the result of a first of its kind collaboration
between Norwegian’s groundbreaking entertainment team and Broadway
director/choreographer Patricia Wilcox, Tony Award winning scenic
designer David Gallo and veteran magician Jeff Hobson. The show’s
design is inspired by the science fiction of Jules Verne, the artistry
of legendary magicians such as Houdini and the popularity of recent
blockbusters featuring supernatural characters.
As guests wait to enter the portal of The Illusionarium, they will be
surrounded by antique spell books, magical interactive artifacts and
relics in a steampunk-inspired environment. The centerpiece of the
Illusionarium is a 30’ diameter video dome that will transport audiences
to mystical places.
The Illusionarium will offer 12 performances per cruise, two shows per night.

Fireworks Light Up the Night
Adding to the ship’s excitement, Norwegian Getaway will also feature a
dazzling display of fireworks on every cruise. As guests dance the
night away under the stars in the open-air Spice H20 venue at the aft of
the ship, a mesmerizing color-filled fireworks show will light up the
night sky, right above the ship. The fully-produced show is a visual
masterpiece that is set to music, creating an incredible finale to the
cruise.

Aqua Park
The Aqua Park is one of Norwegian’s biggest and features five
multi-story water slides. Norwegian Getaway and her sister ship,
Norwegian Breakaway, are the first cruise ships to feature the Free Fall
– two side-by-side slides where guests will stand up and have the floor
drop from underneath, propelling them into a thrilling loop. Offering
another first with a twist are two additional side-by-side twister
slides – called The Whip -- that deliver an unforgettable adrenaline
rush as they plunge guests on a spiral race to the finish line. For
those who prefer a more relaxing ride, there is a family-friendly
open-flume body slide. The Aqua Park also features two swimming pools,
four hot tubs and a semi-open air eatery.

The three-story sports complex will feature a multi-level elevated
ropes course that will challenge guests to more than 40 different
elements, including a zip track. For a thrill like no other, guests will
confront The Plank, a platform that extends eight feet over the side of
the ship. Those who choose to test their courage on The Plank will be
rewarded by having their photo taken after conquering this
heart-pounding, yet breathtaking, feat. Kids will be challenged as well
with a special ropes course just for them. In another first for the
line, the nine-hole ocean-themed miniature golf course is located
beneath the ropes course, offering family fun with friendly
competition. A rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline and spider web, a
24-foot enclosed climbing cage complete with a spiral slide, round out
the activities.

Adult Only Areas
Norwegian Getaway will also feature adult-only outdoor enclaves. Spice H2O,
located at the back of the ship on deck 16, is an adult-only escape
offering day-time relaxation and night-time exhilaration. A bevy of sun
loungers surround a huge video screen, complete with two hot tubs and a
soothing dual waterfall feature, perfect for cooling off from the sun.
At night, guests can dance under the stars or chill at the bar with
accompanying lounge area, featuring comfortable seating while admiring
the ocean views.

On deck 17, guests ages 18 and over will have the opportunity to enjoy
another private retreat – Vibe Beach Club – by purchasing an access
pass. Complete with ocean views, an oversized hot tub, luxurious chaise
loungers and a relaxing water feature, Vibe Beach Club will be the ideal
spot for adults to relax and unwind in a serene, comfortable setting
while soaking up the sun. A full-service bar, water spritzers and
chilled towels complete the exclusive experience.

Casual Dining
When hunger strikes, while enjoying all the outdoor activities, guests
can venture to the Garden Café, on deck 15, which will offer an abundant
assortment of delicious menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This is Norwegian’s signature action station casual restaurant where
chefs cook fresh, prepared-to-order food as guests watch, featuring
seafood, pizza, fruit, soups, pasta, ethnic specialties, burgers and
desserts; offering extensive and varied selections.

Currently being built at Meyer Werft in Germany, Norwegian Getaway will
be 146,600 gross tons and offer a wide range of accommodations. The
ship represents an opportunity for the Norwegian guest to “get away”
from the routine of work, school, and daily stress, and find a true
respite at sea that reflects the energy and culture that Miami is known
for worldwide.

To date, the company has revealed the ship’s groundbreaking design,
including The Waterfront and 678 Ocean Place; a wide range of indoor and
outdoor venues on three dynamic decks that will create a whole new
complex at sea that enhances guests’ connection with the ocean.
Celebrity Chef and Food Network star Geoffrey Zakarian will also debut
three dining concepts on Norwegian Getaway: Ocean Blue by Geoffrey
Zakarian; Ocean Blue on the Waterfront and The Raw Bar. Norwegian
Getaway will also be the first to have the GRAMMY® Experience at sea which will feature artifacts chosen and curated by the GRAMMY Museum® along with live performances by past GRAMMY winners and nominees, among others.

The 4,000 passenger ship will also feature a rich mix of stateroom
options, including The Haven by Norwegian, comprised of 42 Suites at the
top of the ship in an exclusive, private key-card enclave and 22
additional Suites located throughout the ship; the innovative Studios,
designed and priced for solo travelers; a wide range of Oceanview
staterooms, Balcony and Mini-Suites; along with Spa Balcony, Mini-Suites
and Suites in close proximity to the spa. Norwegian Getaway’s sister
ship, Norwegian Breakaway, will begin sailing from her year-round home
port of New York City in May 2013.

Norwegian Getaway will sail seven-day cruises from Miami to the Eastern
Caribbean beginning on February 1, 2014, with ports of call including
Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Nassau,
Bahamas. Information on Norwegian Getaway’s accommodations and

Royal Caribbean Unveils 2014 Alaska Season

Royal Caribbean International today announced its 2014 Alaska cruise and cruisetour season, which will mark 25 years of delivering the magnificence of the Alaskan frontier on land and sea. Recently revitalized Radiance of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas will return to Alaskan waters and offer 34 sailings on exciting seven-night itineraries from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Seattle, Washington. On board, guests can enjoy up to 11 dining options, new and breathtaking entertainment, as well as family programming such as the award-winning Adventure Ocean kids and teen program, and the new Royal Babies and Tots Nursery, catering to Royal Caribbean’s youngest guests, age six to 36 months old.

In ports of call, guests can choose from an extensive menu of shore excursions to further explore the untamed Alaskan frontier. At Icy Strait Point, for instance, adventure seeking guests can ride the world’s longest ZipRider zip line – 5,300 ft. long – that accelerates up to 60 miles an hour over a lush forest to the beach 1,300 ft. below, or mush their own dogsled team on Dog Sledding on the Mendenhall Glacier by Helicopter from Juneau. For the whole family, the Gold Rush Sled Dogs & White Pass Train Adventure in Skagway offers an exciting ride on the world-famous, narrow-gauge White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, followed by meeting a veteran Iditarod musher and his dogsled team with a chance to pet some pups, or the opportunity to go off-roading through Tongas National Park and canoeing in Lake Harriet Hunt on Backcountry Jeep & Canoe Safari from Ketchikan.

“Royal Caribbean has been unfolding the wonders of the Alaskan frontier for a quarter century and we continue to deliver this amazing destination like no other cruise line,” said Lisa Bauer, executive vice president of Global Marketing and Sales, Royal Caribbean International. “Guests can explore this awe-inspiring destination while sailing aboard our recently revitalized ships that are Designed for WOW and enjoy Royal Caribbean’s friendly and engaging GOLD Anchor service from every staff and crew member. To further immerse themselves, vacationers also can choose an unforgettable Royal Caribbean Alaska cruisetour combining the best of land and sea in the region and without having to worry about any of the planning.”

In addition to witnessing the majesty of Alaska by ship, vacationers also can explore Alaska’s interior on a variety of exciting Royal Caribbean Cruisetours, which combines a sailing aboard Radiance of the Seas with a three- to six-night land tour adventure. Royal Caribbean takes care of all the planning, transportation and lodging on fully escorted tours that spend at least one night in Denali National Park and one leg on the Wilderness Express, a plush, glass-domed train cars that offer panoramic views of the grand Alaskan frontier. A 10-night, family-geared cruisetour will feature a three-night land tour that includes a behind-the-scenes visit to the Alaska Sea Life Center to learn about the region’s natural habitat and the center’s wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts, and wildlife spotting in Denali National Park at the Murie Science and Learning Center.

Vacationers also can combine a Radiance of the Seas or Rhapsody of the Seas’ Alaska cruise with one of four pre- or post-cruise land tours throughout the Canadian Rockies and – new for 2014 – the Okanagan Wine Valley. For a comprehensive Alaska and the Canadian Rockies adventure, the Ultimate Cruisetour combines both region’s land tour programs with a seven-night cruise aboard Radiance of the Seas for a 19-night grand adventure on land and sea.

Recently revitalized in 2011 and 2012, respectively, Radiance of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas now offer guests a range of new dining options, breathtaking entertainment, and contemporary amenities that are Designed for WOW. Each ship now features some of the most popular dining options and amenities that were first introduced aboard the world’s largest and most revolutionary ships, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. New signature concepts aboard these ships include a new dance club experience in the contemporized Viking Crown Lounge. On Rhapsody of the Seas guests are surprised and delighted throughout the day by a series of heart-pounding, aerial-acrobatic entertainment experiences in the four deck-high Centrum which also features the new retro R Bar. Guests enjoy choices from 11 delectable dining options on Radiance of the Seas and nine on Rhapsody of the Seas, including the Park Café gourmet deli, Izumi Asian Cuisine, Giovanni’s Table Italian restaurant, and the exclusive Chef’s Table, some for an additional cover charge. Both ships offer bow-to-stern WiFi service, a refresh of all public spaces and updated staterooms with flat-panel televisions. An oversized LED movie screen overlooking the main pool provides entertainment to guests taking a brisk dip on a warm Alaskan day, and new Concierge and Diamond lounges aboard each ship further recognize Royal Caribbean’s loyal Crown & Anchor Society members and suite guests.

Radiance of the Seas will alternate North- and Southbound seven-night itineraries from Vancouver and Seward, respectively. Guests will cruise the Inside Passage and the monumental Hubbard Glacier, as well as call at Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau and Skagway, Alaska. Radiance of the Seas’ Alaska season will be bookended with a seven-night itinerary, sailing roundtrip from Vancouver on May 9 and Sept. 5, calling at Icy Strait Point, Juneau, and Ketchikan, and cruising up Tracy Arm Fjord to see Sawyer Glacier.

For its part, Rhapsody of the seas will sail seven-night, roundtrip itineraries to Sawyer Glacier from Seattle, Wash. Guests will cruise the Inside Passage and call at Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria, British Columbia. Two similar seven-night itineraries that call at Ketchikan instead of Victoria will sail from Vancouver to Seattle on May 16 and vice versa on Aug. 29.

Cruise Lines has announced the first implementation phase of its
fleetwide comprehensive operational review, focused on Carnival
Triumph, as well as Carnival Sunshine, which is currently undergoing a
previously scheduled dry dock for product enhancements. The cruise line
is making significant investments to enhance the level of operating
redundancies and the scope of hotel services
that can run on emergency power, and further improve each ship’s fire
prevention, detection and suppression systems.

Underscoring its commitment to the growing Japanese cruise market, Carnival Corporation & plc today detailed a substantially expanded 2014 Japan cruise program for the Princess Cruises brand, which brings a second ship to the market, features sailings from three homeports and plans to significantly expand the size of the cruise market in Japan to approximately 100,000 passengers.

The Japan-built Diamond Princess will join Sun Princess for a cruise program from three homeports – Tokyo (Yokohama), Kobe, and an industry first, Otaru near Sapporo on Hokkaido. Sailing between April and October in 2014, the two ships will offer 42 departures featuring nine unique itineraries ranging from seven to nine days. The two ships will visit more than 20 ports in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Russia.

“We were the first international cruise line brand to offer a full season of cruises designed specifically for passengers from Japan, and we continue to believe there is substantial untapped demand for cruise vacations here,” said Alan Buckelew, president and CEO of Princess Cruises. “With a second, larger ship and our ground-breaking itineraries in 2014 we look forward to continuing to help develop the full potential of the cruise market in Japan.”

Buckelew added that the economic impact from this deployment will be notable, with a total contribution for the 2014 season estimated to be in excess of 11 billion yen. This includes passenger and crew spending in each port, plus the port and other local costs Princess Cruises pays to bring its ships to Japan.

Diamond Princess will homeport in Tokyo (Yokohama) for an extended season of 9-day cruises that include visits to Taiwan, South Korea, Hokkaido, Russia and 15 Japanese ports, including five new itineraries created especially for the ship. During the popular holiday period of Golden Week, Diamond Princess will feature a special 10-day itinerary that includes opportunities to visit several festivals plus enjoy a special call to Nagasaki, home to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries where the ship was built, to celebrate Diamond Princess’ 10-year anniversary.

Sun Princess will debut several industry firsts for the Japanese market – including innovative 7-day cruises from the northern coastal town of Otaru, located outside of Sapporo, as well as two new 8-day itineraries from Kobe. These itineraries will offer cruise options to appeal to passengers looking for a week-long cruise vacation, and the northern Hokkaido itinerary will offer a refreshing summer destination. The ship will also make maiden calls in the Japanese islands of Ishigaki, and Amami Oshima, as well as Abashiri and Hualien, Taiwan.

On these sailings, passengers will find the cruise experience substantially the same as that offered by Princess Cruises around the world, providing an impressive array of dining and entertainment options in addition to the line’s signature innovations such as its popular Movies Under the Stars poolside theater and The Sanctuary, an exclusive top-deck retreat.

However some changes and enhancements are being made to appeal to the local market such as Japanese-speaking crew members in key passenger-facing positions. Dining room menus will offer international Princess cuisine while additional offerings will cater to Japanese tastes, such as an a la carte sushi bar, Japanese breakfast, noodle bar, regional tea tastings, and special sake menu. A traditional kagamiwari ceremony will be held during the captain’s welcome. Specially designed enrichment programs will include an expert lecture series on art, culture and history. Other amenities such as the shopping selection and spa treatments will also be tailored to Japanese preferences, and onboard collateral items and stateroom information will be translated into Japanese.

An extensive array of shore excursions will be available to complement the itineraries so passengers can experience all the ports have to offer.

The 2,670-passenger Diamond Princess was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki, Japan – the first of two Princess ships built in Japan. Diamond Princess and the 2,022-passenger Sun Princess offer passengers a wealth of amenities including Movies Under the Stars and The Sanctuary. The ships feature multiple dining rooms and entertainment venues, many staterooms with private balconies, Lotus Spa, boutiques, and an internet café among other amenities.

The 2014 Japan cruise program opens for sale today.
Cruise & Maritime Voyages has announced they plan to enter the Australian cruise market in November with charter of Premicon Group's Astor.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) is pleased to announce the unveiling of plans to enter the Australian cruise market with the opening of a dedicated sales office in Sydney, the three year seasonal charter of the 600 passenger Astor to operate twice yearly ocean voyages between the UK, Australia and South Africa and the launch of a summer season of cruises from Fremantle, Perth commencing 12th December 2013.

The 20,606 gross ton Astor joins the CMV fleet in November 2013 and will operate alongside the 800 passenger flagship Marco Polo and 700 passenger Discovery, both operating sailings from eight British ports. Discovery also operates an autumn Mediterranean fly cruise program. Astor’s inaugural 10,000 capacity programme will increase CMV’s overall 2014 global capacity to almost 62,000 passengers.

Astor has a fine pedigree and excellent reputation currently operating European summer cruises on the German market. She is managed and marketed by the Munich based Premicon Group that also overlooks a fleet of 22 premium river vessels operating on the Rhine, Main, Moselle and Danube also presenting new marketing opportunities between Premicon and CMV.

The Astor was originally launched on the British market back in 1987 as a five star luxury ‘soft adventure’ product and since her inception has undergone a number of refits including a recent $22 million upgrade in 2010.

She will be positioned as a premium four star product and has 289 cabins including 42 suites with 70% of accommodation comprising an ocean view. There are a wide range of beautifully appointed lounges, seven passenger decks, traditional wooden decks and also an extensive sports deck with a wrap around jogging track and attractive wellness centre with a heated internal pool.

In announcing the introduction of Astor to the CMV fleet and the launch of a new voyage service to Australia, Chris Coates, Commercial Director commented, “Astor is indeed a beautiful ocean going vessel with a proud heritage and we are delighted that Astor will be part of our international development plans as we establish a strong presence on the Australasian cruise market.

We believe that Astor will become a firm favourite alongside Marco Polo and Discovery and a perfect match for the mid-sized more traditional business model we have developed since CMV’s launch in 2009. Despite the continued growth of mega resort style mass market vessels, the success and growing interest in the CMV product demonstrates that this niche sector has a significant role to play not only in the UK but also in the wider international English speaking markets and global arena. This new initiative also offers the travel industry an exciting new niche premium cruise product that lends itself to packaging opportunities”.

The opening of a sales office in Sydney follows the establishment in 2011 of a dedicated North
A new brochure including CMV Astor Voyages will be released later this month featuring the full program of southbound & northbound voyages through 2015, plus a selection of sailings from Fremantle including a splendid 35 night Circumnavigation of Australia and a 24 night Far East sailing.

The Astor will continue to sail for Transocean Tour's during the prime summer month returning the CVM for the winter seasons.

Japan-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received orders
from Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line (MOPAS) and Nippon Charter Cruise
(NCC) to carry out repair and conversion works on two cruise vessels.

MHI's
Yokohama Dockyard & Machinery Works in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan,
will be responsible for the work, which will be performed on the two
vessels Nippon Maru and Fuji Maru, between mid-December 2012 and the end
of January 2013.

The repair and conversion work is expected to
strengthen MHI's cruise ship repair and conversion business, and is in
line with the medium to long-range maintenance plans of MOPAS and NCC to
increase ship safety and passenger comfort.

Under the deal, work
on the Fuji Maru will be carried out from 14-26 December 2012, while on
the Nippon Maru will happen from 15-27 January 2013.

Entered into service in 1989, the 23,235t Fuji Maru has a length of 167m, width of 24m and features 163 cabins.

The 22,472t Nippon Maru went into operation in 1990, has 202 cabins, and is 166.65m long and 24m wide.

Nippon Maru underwent a major conversion at the Yokohama Dockyard in 2010.
Apart
from the periodical mandated inspection, work will also be carried out
to increase energy savings and passenger service, as well as
installation of LED lighting and the upgrading of galley facilities.

Both Nippon Maru and Fuji Maru were built at MHI's Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works.
AIDAstella, the 10th member of AIDA Cruises fleet, will be christened in
Rostock-Warnemünde on March 16, 2013. On the evening of the
christening, however, Captain Nico Berg (38) will lead not one, but as
many as 10 godmothers onto the stage for the ceremony. The company has
invited its personnel and closest associates to be the guests of honor
at the christening celebration.

The christening party on board
AIDAstella will fully reflect the commitment of the companys staff.
"Holding this fantastic event right on our doorstep gives us the
opportunity to say a big 'thank you' to all AIDA personnel and their
families", explains Michael Ungerer, President of AIDA Cruises. "Since
our first new ship, AIDAcara, was commissioned in summer 1996, it has
been our staff that have successfully built up the company with their
enthusiasm, commitment and the proverbial AIDA smile."

The choice
of the godmother is also a first, with AIDAstella being named by not
one, but ten delightful ladies! Eight female staff from AIDA Cruises
will represent the different countries and corporate divisions of the
cruise company, and two godmothers come from the Meyer Werft shipyard in
Papenburg und the architects Partner Ship Design respectively. With
this gesture, AIDA Cruises would like to extend its thanks to the two
companies that have made such a substantial contribution to the success
of this new range of ships and the unique atmosphere of the AIDA ships.

There
will also be lots on offer for the residents of Rostock, holidaymakers
and AIDA fans on the day of the christening, with Karls Pier 7
organizing an extensive program for the opening of the season at the
Warnemünde Cruise Center. Music, presenters and delicious delicacies
will get visitors in the mood for the exciting event of the christening.
On shore, all the guests will be able to follow the most emotional
moment of the evening on 2 large LED screens when the 10 godmothers
break the bottle of champagne over the bow of the ship. AIDAstella will
then be lit up in the starlight atmosphere of a fabulous firework
display.
The American Queen Steamboat Company announces hotel-side refurbishment details of the 436-passenger paddlewheeler currently underway at the New Orleans’ Bollinger Shipyards. As part of the American Queen’s scheduled annual layup, an abundance of enhancements totaling more than one-half million dollars will be evident to past guests boarding for her first 2013 voyage on February 23.

“The American Queen is a national treasure and our loyal guests of her 2012 inaugural season enjoyed a historic return to river cruising in the heartland,” explains American Queen Steamboat Company President and COO Ted Sykes. “After her makeover, public areas will appear even richer and more opulent, while back-of-the-house changes and additions improve efficiency.”

A team of one hundred craftsman is currently dedicated to the American Queen, preparing her for an even more comfortable and enjoyable second season. New woodwork, custom-milled carpets and period fabrics in rich jewel tones not only heighten the sense of elegance but reflect the paddlewheeler’s heritage and pay homage to the glory days of river travel.

All furniture in both public areas and suites is being either reupholstered or replaced. As guests enter their stateroom or suite, they will be welcomed by new mahogany plantation shutters enhancing both privacy and ambiance. Added river scenes by noted artist Michael Blaser will adorn hallways throughout the boat, complementing the décor and reinforcing a sense of nostalgia.

Guests arriving in the J.M. White Dining Room will be greeted by a dramatic new marble and granite entryway, wallpaper and carpeting. New empire-style dining chairs are being added for a grand atmosphere. A mahogany wine wall showcasing a collection of both popular and boutique wineries creates a dramatic centerpiece. The room also features a new double-sided buffet to accommodate a greater selection of culinary specialties at breakfast and lunch. Behind the scenes, newly added appliances will also be welcomed by the galley staff to deliver Culinary Director Regina Charboneau’s signature cuisine.

A perennial favorite among guests, the Front Porch of America, will now become the Front Porch Café, offering a more comprehensive alternative dining option with the addition of a small prep kitchen executing a light menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. New furniture will adorn this sitting area while the outdoor deck remains a favorite spot for reading a classic novel or simply watching the river pass by.

Offering the most inclusive river cruise experience in North America, American Queen’s fares will begin at $1,495 per guest based on double occupancy in 2013, and include a one-night pre-voyage hotel stay, shore tours in every port onboard deluxe SteamcoachesSM, the acclaimed cuisine of legendary chef Regina Charboneau, and complimentary wine and beer with dinner. A variety of holiday lengths ranging from five days to fourteen offer exceptional value and convenience with little or no flying required.
