The Celebrity Solstice is the first ship to utilize solar power for a portion of it's on board electrical use.The solar panels appear as white panels, located just above the bridge of the ship and air-conditioning unit. The panels will convert the sun's energy into about 240 Kilowatt hours per day. The power produced will sustain the electrical needs of 3 normal size homes for a day.
Although the energy produced is not significant compared when compared to the overall demand, it does serve as a prototype for future applications and lead the way for solar energy use aboard other ships.
